Serum Neurofilament Light Chain: A Potential Biomarker for Peripheral Neuropathy
نویسندگان
چکیده
In some neurological diseases, advanced examinations can be used as diagnostic tools. Several indicators have also been discovered that to assess the severity of neuronal damage and disease progression. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a cytoskeleton protein makes up structure neuron axons released when injured, allowing it injury severity. NfL was first diagnose central nervous system disorders like dementia, multiple sclerosis, other neurodegenerative diseases. But, levels elevated in peripheral disorders, several neuropathic conditions, including amyloid neuropathy, HIV-associated diabetic leprosy according various investigations. Theoretically, all abnormalities induced by axonal will increase blood levels, testing utilized measurement tool. predictive indicator monitor treatment efficacy neuropathy

Serum Phosphorylated Neurofilament-Heavy Chain, a Potential Biomarker, is Associated With Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
Neurofilament (NF), one of the major axonal cytoskeletal proteins, plays a critical role in degenerative diseases in both the central and the peripheral nervous systems. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between serum phosphorylated neurofilament-heavy chain (pNF-H) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in patients with type 2 diabetes.Serum pNF-H concentrations were measu...
متن کاملNeurofilament light chain: a biomarker for genetic frontotemporal dementia
OBJECTIVE To evaluate cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels in genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD) as a potential biomarker in the presymptomatic stage and during the conversion into the symptomatic stage. Additionally, to correlate NfL levels to clinical and neuroimaging parameters. METHODS In this multicenter case-control study, we investigated CSF NfL...

OBJECTIVE To perform a cross-sectional study to determine whether plasma neurofilament light chain (NfL) concentration is elevated in patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) and if it correlates with disease severity. METHODS Blood samples were collected from 75 patients with CMT and 67 age-matched healthy controls over a 1-year period. Disease severity was measured using the Rasch mo...

Objective: To test blood and CSF neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels in relation to disease progression and survival in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods: Using an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay, NfL levels were measured in samples from 2 cohorts of patients with sporadic ALS and healthy controls, recruited in London (ALS/control, plasma: n 5 103/42) and Oxford (ALS/control,...
متن کاملSerum neurofilament light chain in relapsing-remitting MS
MS is a chronic disease of the CNS, well recognized for its diverse clinical presentations and outcomes. Clinicians continue to struggle to predict shortor long-term prognosis of persons affected by MS, to predict response to the growing array of diseasemodifying treatments available, and to identify persons at risk of serious adverse events from those treatments. As such, valid, reliable, and ...
